PAIN'S TAKINGS

1.

Painstakingly

Pain's taking its

Time to punish

A crime

Committed

Quite innocently

For free

By me...

2.

Painstakingly

Pain's taking it

Far too slow

To grow!

Yet how I wanted

To show that I'm

ploughing my pain

(in a cycle like grain)

Though I knew

Those seeds

Were far to cheap

To reap.

3.

Painstakingly

Pain's staking

My heart

To a tree

For all to see

That the one

Who pain's taking

To nowhere

So speedily

Is me,

You see?

4.

Painstakingly,

Pain's making my work

Truly loyal

But despite my hours

Of toil, there'll never

be spoil;

Unlike grain, it needs no rain

Seeing it feeds so

Heartily

On me

With glee.

6.

Painstakingly,

Pain's taking me

Out to play

Yet this is a game

Where pain's stakes are set;

On my loss pain has bet

And when the game is done

(and pain has won)

I'll no longer be free

Because I'll be the one

Who'll depart

As pain's takings

I fear,

My dear.

7.

Painstakingly

Pain's taken me just one way

To stay.

Seeing I left

Tickets for two

To ensure that you'd

Follow me too

With such tickets

To go

It's hard to

Say no

I think,

Don't you?
